Living in Canda – Weather & Time

Posted by

Hello, I am Daniel Shin. I am currently living in Ottawa, Canada.

In this post, I am going to talk about the weather conditions and how time works here. It was one of the interesting parts of living here.

First, time. I didn’t know that there was something called summertime. Summertime is when the time changes so it is either 1 hour faster or slower. When I first realized that I earned an extra hour, I was so happy. I woke up at 7 because my body thought it was 8. It felt like I was waking up early and sleeping early. However, I recently lost an hour sadly. Now I needed to wake up earlier and sleep earlier, so I am getting tired.

Second, the weather. As Canada is in the north, I expected it to be cold. However, I didn’t expect it to be THIS cold. The temperature reached below negative 20 degrees, and snow was everywhere, making it feel colder. Snow piled up to my knee, and it was one of the colder winters for me. However, I heard my friends say it was a warm winter this year. That surprised me A LOT. I don’t know if I can survive this year’s winter…

For those who are preparing to come to Canada, I recommend you bring warm clothes, because it is colder than you think. Also, don’t be surprised even though your clock is weird – it might be summertime.
